Testimonials

We invite you to read what our previous patients have had to say about Brightside Counseling and Phillip Candland. We hope that you, too, will give us a chance to help you with your counseling needs.

Dale

When I started seeing Phillip I was at a very low point in my life. I felt as if the weight of the world was holding me down. In just a few weeks Phillip help me understand that I didn't need to hold the weight of the world, and that I could take care of myself. And that when I took care of myself it wasn't selfish.

I now have the ability to decide what is important enough to weigh me down and what I can let pass me by. This has been very liberating to feel free of so much emotional weight. It has made my life enjoyable again.

Counseling with Mr. Phillip was very good for me. I needed a professional person to project my inner feelings so I could discover why I was having certain feelings about myself. Phillip was very good at listening and reflecting so I was able to see things from a different perspective.

It was important for me to be able to have a professional because when I tried to confide and talk to trusted friends and family I was always looking for it to come back around through rumors. I appreciate very much how Phillip was able to put questions to me that got me thinking about plans for the future. He helped me to be able to move forward increasing my self confidence.

Dr Candland gave me the tools and language to begin to chip away problems I spent years boxing up. He was always encouraging me to get back on the horse when i wanted to quit, and provided only support during these stumbles, not judgement. It's been almost a year since I first met with him, and the small progress I never saw each day has added up to leaps and bounds towards becoming the healthy and happy person I want to be, and though I still have many miles to go, I never would have began the journey without his help.

Phillip has provided me with a lot of direction and insight with several different things at this point, and has given me ways to take practical small steps to make progress toward my goals. Would definitely recommend.

I would like to write a testimonial of the positive experiences that myself and children have had working with Phillip Candland. My children and I had the experience of being in a very controlling religion. Many years of conflicting views, mental and emotional abuse had left deep marks on all of us. I was sent away from the religion and was not able take my children with me. After a few years, I went back and took them out of the religion. The transition for all of us was very difficult.

The trauma that the children experienced from so many conflicting views and being taught how wicked the gentile world was left them with deep-seated distrust. But once they got the chance to see how the world really is and that there are good people no matter where you go, their distrust turned to anger. My children wanted to know why they were lied to and why all these people outside the religion had been painted as bad, when in fact, they could clearly see, they really were not bad.

My children have been in many therapy sessions with multiple councilors. I was ready to give up because I felt that my children were not making progress, and we still were struggling so hard in overcoming the emotional issues. We moved to a different state and that is when we were introduced to Phillip. After a few weeks I noticed a major difference in my children’s behavior. They remembered their sessions with him and used the coping methods he showed them!

You have no idea the relief a mother feels when she sees a situation starting to escalate between her children, and one of them stops and says, “Do you remember what Phillip said to do when we start getting mad?” and the other child stops and says, “Oh yah, he said to breathe in and squish my silly putty in my hand.” My oldest child has had extreme anger issues. We had to switch councilors for a time and when we were able to get him back into counseling with Phillip, he has made some tremendous progress in a very short amount of time.

Phillip has been a tremendous help in the lives of my family, and I want to state my gratitude for his help and for his very caring nature.

Ward

At a time of grave need for insights, answers to scary questions, how to go within, and just simply find inner peace, Phillip came into my life.

A combat veteran, having grown up in polygamy, as well as raising a very large family, in need of comfort, he was a responsive listening ear and understanding. But most of all, he’s a friend who cared. Phillip is a kindly and trusted counselor for me. He is sensitive and is very tender in interpreting and guiding my experiences in life.

Together, we have taken on old and recent trauma situations. Phillip’s explanations, and professional guidance have assisted me in both letting go of old feelings, as well as opened my eyes, thoughts and feelings to bring me and my partner new hope for the beautiful life we now live.

A family man, Phillip relates well to the endless process of partnering and raising beautiful precious children.

Me and my dear partner have come so far in our pursuit of a beautiful life, with deep purpose, feelings and tender fulfillment. We are deeply grateful to Phillip, for his kind effective skills as a family counselor. Thank you Phillip.
